I thought this explaination of Interior Designers was wonderful.
As I sit at my office today....just WAITING to get out the door to go put my new bed frame together that came in last night (!!!).. I'm not picking out sofa pillows, or lamp shades...I'm doing this:

Spreadsheet after spreadsheet...matrix after matrix.
Yes, there are those days that I actually get to "do the fun stuff" and the design work (We live for those days...) but that is only about 5% of time. The rest of the 95% of time is spent implementing (spreadsheets, drawings etc) the design. But when it is all actually finished... it's worth it!
